# Tokyo
It doesn’t seem possible that a city like Tokyo should exist. How can the most heavily populated city in the world (more than four times the population of NYC) also be the quietest, cleanest, and safest city we have ever seen? The magic of this lies in the people here, who appear to have an unspoken contract to live harmoniously with their surroundings and with one another. Despite Tokyo famously having no trash cans out on the streets, the ground is free of litter. Most shocking to us, however, was the fact that while the city was covered in people’s parked bicycles, none of them had locks on them. We were constantly amazed by how quiet and serene the city felt. It was unlike anything we’ve ever experienced.
Tokyo is the definition of a sensory feast. The architecture is wildly diverse, and each building and storefront has its own style and personality. New delicious smells wafting from restaurants or street vendors await you on every block. Factor in the excellent public transit, surprisingly affordable prices, and high-tech bidets on every toilet—and Tokyo might just be the perfect city.
We loved every second we spent here (perhaps with exception of the infamous gluten-free restaurant), and already dream of returning someday, but for now it is time to move on to the countryside, and we can’t wait to see what it has to offer.
